I administer computers running various operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix). What help can I get from Pulse 2 ?
Mandriva Pulse 2 help you roll-out Windows or GNU/Linux operating systems to workstations and servers. Pulse 2 maintains a software and hardware inventory of each computer in its database. All software installed in the profile may be automatically updated, including security updates. Thanks to bandwidth management mechanisms and a modular architecture, Pulse 2 fits the needs of multi-site IT infrastructures.
Can Pulse 2 help me industrialize my desktop roll-out and IT management processes ?
Mandriva Pulse 2 performs identical installations and updates while reducing the workload of the computer teams. Administrators using both Mandriva Pulse and Directory Server will be able to easily manage the rights of users and to assign them profiles that will be activated when connecting to general-purpose workstations.
How many computers can Pulse 2 administer ?
Pulse 2 was designed to administer up to tens of thousands of desktops or servers.
Is Pulse 2 easy to incorporate into a network ?
Pulse 2 is genuinely easy to implement in a corporate network thanks to its modularity and the use of standards. Pulse 2 additionally integrates with other tools like OCS Inventory, GLPI. Nagios is also possible.
Where can I found some deployment script examples ?
Have a look at Pulse 2 snippets.
Is my computer supported by the imaging module ?
We support latest x86 (32 and 64 bits) computers. We will often update the imaging client to support more hardware.
Which filesystems are supported ?
My filesystem is not supported. What can I do ?
Pulse 2 features a raw backup mode, which works with all filesystems. Beware that the resulting image size will not be optimized.
I'm getting an error while creating bundles, but other deployments work
If Suhosin is installed and activated on your web server, make sure than request.max_varname_length and post.max_name_length are set to at least 160 :
suhosin.request.max_varname_length = 160 suhosin.post.max_name_length = 160
You can also activate Suhosin's simulation mode with this flag, and requests will no more be blocked:
suhosin.simulation = On
Update / Upgrade
I just saw that a new version just came out, what do I have to fear from ?
Please see our upgrade instructions.
How do I follow a particular version ?
Generally speaking, all repositories are including a keyword standing the version. For exemple:
- MES 5 / 64 bits / stable version : http://pulse2.mandriva.org/pub/pulse2/server/mandriva/mes5/x86_64/ stable
- RHEL 5 / 32 bits / version 1.2.1 : http://pulse2.mandriva.org/pub/pulse2/server/redhat/$releasever/$basearch/ 1.2.1
I already have a Vmware Installation, will this VM run on it ?
Our Vmware Image is running Vmware hardware level 4 (formerly generation 4), thus should run on most Vmware installation.
However this kind of VM can't be run on Vmware ESX 3.0+. If your are planning to use our demo image on such an installation, you will have to convert it using Vmware Converter. For more information please read this document (PDF, 1.2 MB).
